Understanding Addiction Presentation

Wednesday 15th June 2011

Ten people, mainly from professional backgrounds, attended the talk on “Understanding Addiction – and how to overcome it” presented by Ruth Longworth-Zurcher and Ralph Tate. The evening was in two parts, the first hour exploring the whole question about the reasons why people may develop addictive behaviours, the theory behind the phenomenon of addiction, and the physiological and psychological aspects which contribute to it; and the second hour which focused on various strategies to help people, in practical ways, deal positively with addictive behaviour in order to overcome it.

 The presentation was well received and here is a selection of some of the comments which people have made:

 “Thank you very much for a very worthwhile evening”;

“Extremely interesting and very well thought out”;

“I have learned much that I can use in my practice with clients”;

“Excellently delivered – very clear – I found it easy to understand”;

“I’m glad I came and it will definitely inform my practice”;

“It was a great presentation”;

“I found it interesting learning strategies for breaking addiction”;

“I now understand better the addiction process in the brain. Thanks a million!”

Ruth and Ralph would like to thank everyone for their attendance and hope very much to repeat this presentation in the not-too-distant future.
